A FAMILY LEGACY
Behind Baba’s Sauce is a proud family run business, built on heritage, hard work and a passion for great food.
The much loved recipe was created in the late 1970s by Sunny’s late father in Dundee. It quickly became his signature sauce and went on to be used in all of his restaurants, loved by customers for its rich, distinctive flavour.
Originally from Khulna in Bangladesh, Sunny’s father came from humble beginnings. His marriage was arranged, but as Sunny recalls, “when my father went to visit my mother, he knew straight away that he wanted to marry her.”
Seeking a better life, the couple moved to Dundee in the 1970s. Sunny’s father initially studied the jute industry before working as a garment finisher at the Levi’s factory. At the time, they were the only Bengali family in Dundee and faced racial abuse — something Sunny describes as being “quite hard for them”.
Despite this, he went on to open a series of successful restaurants across the city. Known as a warm, cheerful and deeply respected man, he was later appointed Head of the Bangladeshi community in Dundee.
Today, that same recipe lives on through Baba’s Sauce. Each batch is produced at our own SALSA certified factory.
In 2023, we were incredibly proud to receive a Bronze Award at the Scottish Food & Retail Awards. In such a saturated market, being nominated and recognised by over 50 judges was a huge honour.
Thanks to growing demand, Baba’s Sauce is now available throughout the UK and this is only the beginning.
